Allan Jansen By Robyn Joubert |
Allan makes the gradeNew director pulls his weight and reaps the rewards Hot on the heels of the success of the Moyomnandi stack sampler, Allan Jansen has been appointed an Ecoserv director in Johannesburg. Ecoserv MD Quentin Hurt said that while Directorship had been an element of Allan's employment negotiations, the appointment was subject to a performance review on Allan's work on ECOSERV's projects and the the automatic stack sampler design. “Allan sold the first stack sampler to ferro-alloy producer Xstrata and secured a major repeat service contract with them. The project has received outstanding client reviews and these achievements have convinced us to finalize this appointment to strengthen the board,” said Quentin. Allan has 18 years of ‘main-stream engineering’ innovation and production experience under his belt. But six months ago he took stock of his career and decided to move into consulting, a job whose demands suited his aptitude and personality. He settled on Ecoserv as he respected the company’s work ethics and high level of professionalism. “I have been associated with Ecoserv since 1999 as a client and had fixed ideas regarding their professionalism and role in the modern environmental drive. Ecoserv works well in conjunction with their clients and regulators to quantify emissions and measure performance in relation to permit requirements. Ecoserv performs a vital function and I am clear on the strategy of the company and its contribution to the economy as a whole.”
Allan has spent two years working alongside Mark Baird to develop the stack sampler. Mark, with an MSc in Chemical Engineering, concentrated on the software and Allan, with a BSc Eng (Elec), built the hardware. The stack sampler was recently christened Moyomnandi, meaning ‘clean air’, the result of a competition amongst Ecoserv staff. The team worked hard on Moyomnandi and success has come quickly for Allan. “I have made the grade and am proud to be where I am,”
Allan said shortly after his promotion. “I feel like I am a part
of the company and am grateful to Ecoserv for the opportunity which
has been afforded to me.”
